HVAC Procedure and Performance Guide

TASK: Install pre-charged factory line set

STANDARD OF PERFORMANCE

Pre-charged factory line must be installed according to manufacturer’s specifications and job specifications.  Completed installation must not leak.  Applicable safety procedures must be followed.

PROCEDURE GUIDE

  1. Review manufacturer’s specifications and job specifications.
  2. Collect tools, equipment and materials.
  3. Put on safety and protective equipment and apparel.
  4. Unroll and straighten tubing.
  5. Install line set without alterations:

a. Route tubing from evaporator to condenser.

b. Remove protective caps from evaporator connections and from tubing.

c. Place drop of refrigerant oil on O-ring in line fitting.

d. Engage tubing on evaporator connection and tighten hand-tight. (Note:  Ensure that fitting is not cross-threaded).

e. Continue tightening fitting with wrench until it is tightened to manufacturer’s specifications.

f. Repeat procedure (Steps 5a through 5e).

g. Test line for leaks.

6. Alter and install line set:

a. Determine required length for line fitting and select location for cutting.

b. Bleed line charge carefully.

c. Cut line set and alter length as needed.

d. Join lines using type of joint recommended by manufacturer.

e. Perform pressure test on line set.

f. Evacuate line set and recharge with refrigerant according to manufacturer’s specifications.

g. Test line for leaks.

h. Install line set following procedure given in Steps 5a through 5e.

7. If line set leaks, follow manufacturer’s instructions.

8. Remove safety and protective equipment and apparel.

9. Gather tools, equipment and leftover materials, and leave work site clean.
