HVAC Procedure and Performance Guide

TASK: Connect tubing and fitting using soft-solder joint.

STANDARD OF PERFORMANCE

Tubing must be cut square and must be fully deburred. Joint must not leak.  Applicable safety procedures must be followed.

PROCEDURE GUIDE

  1. Review manufacturer’s specifications and job specifications.
  2. Collect tools, equipment and materials.
  3. Put on safety and protective equipment and apparel.
  4. Select desired tubing and fitting.
  5. Cut tubing to length and remove burrs.
  6. Clean tubing and fitting for soldering.
  7. Apply flux to male part and place fitting on tubing.
  8. Light and adjust torch.
  9. Apply heat to tube and fitting, keeping torch moving to spread heat evenly until flux bubbles.       (Note:  Do not melt metal).
  10. Keep flame on fitting and apply solder to fill joint.
  11. Remove heat and wipe joint with cloth while still hot.
  12. Allow joint to cool and test for leaks.
  13. If joint leaks, reheat, separate parts and remake and retest joint, following Steps 6 through 13.
  14. Remove safety and protective equipment and apparel.
  15. Gather tools, equipment and leftover materials, and leave work site clean.
