HVAC Procedure and Performance Guide

TASK: Install refrigeration line solenoid valve (gas or liquid).

Training for this procedure can be found in these courses:

                         131 – Oil Heat   and  101 – HVAC Fundamentals

STANDARD OF PERFORMANCE

Solenoid valve must be located and installed according to manufacturer’s specifications.  Valve must not be damaged during installation, must operate according to manufacturer’s specifications, and must not leak.  Applicable safety procedures must be followed.

PROCEDURE GUIDE

  1. Review manufacturer’s specifications and job specifications.
  2. Collect tools, equipment and materials.
  3. Put on safety and protective equipment and apparel.
  4. Determine type of connection required and correct location for valve.
  5. Verify that solenoid valve is specified size, type and voltage for application.
  6. Install valve:

a. Valve: Solderless connection requiring no heat:

1)  Prepare tubing.

2) Install valve according to manufacturer’s specifications.

3) Make electrical connections according to manufacturer’s specifications.

b. Valve: Solder connection:

1) Prepare tubing.

2) Disassemble valve according to manufacturer’s instructions.

3) Install valve body. (Note:  Do not direct heat on main part of valve during installation.  Use heat-trap paste on body if additional protection is required).

4) Reassemble valve when cool according to manufacturer’s instructions.

5) Make electrical connections according to manufacturer’s instructions.

7. Remove safety and protective equipment and apparel.

8. Gather tools, equipment and leftover materials, and leave work site clean.

9. Test for leaks when refrigerant circuit has been completed.
