HVAC Procedure and Performance Guide

TASK: Install pressure regulator valve (discharge bypass, crankcase pressure and evaporator pressure)

Training for this procedure can be found in these courses:

                         131 – Oil Heat l  and  161 – Boilers l

STANDARD OF PERFORMANCE

Regulator valve must be located and installed according to manufacturer’s specifications and job specifications. Valve must regulate refrigerant pressure as required by application.  Installation must not leak.  Applicable safety procedures must be followed.

PROCEDURE GUIDE

  1. Review manufacturer’s specifications and job specifications.
  2. Collect tools, equipment and materials.
  3. Put on safety and protective equipment and apparel.
  4. Determine type of connection required and correct location.
  5. Verify that regulator valve is correct size and type for application.
  6. Prepare tubing.
  7. Install valve according to manufacturer’s specifications.

a. Crankcase pressure and evaporator pressure valve:

1)  Disassemble valve.

2) Install valve body. (Note:  Use heat-trap paste, wet cloths, etc. to protect valve body from excess heat during soldering).

3) Reassemble valve after cooling.

b. Discharge bypass valve:

1) Disassemble valve.

2) Install valve body. (Note:  Use heat-trap paste, wet cloths, etc. to protect valve body from excess heat during soldering).

3) Install external equalizer line.

4) Reassemble valve.

8. Remove safety and protective equipment and apparel.

9. Gather tools, equipment and leftover materials, and leave work site clean.

10. Test for leaks and make pressure adjustments when refrigerant circuit has been completed, and make required repairs.
